Usually, walkways can be applied by spraying a Dulux A1 Master onto the concrete. However, this can wear off quite quickly. For this project, we needed to apply a very durable and non-slip coating and a chemical processing plant in Dandenong Victoria.
The Process
We manually stenciled the walkway onto the concrete. This took considerably longer than using a line spraying machine.
We applied 3 coats of yellow epoxy resin with crushed glass as a non-slip additive. This coating is a lot thicker than standard line marking due to the durability that the customer required.
The below 3 images show a close up of the non-slip crushed glass in the epoxy resin. This type of non-slip epoxy is applied with crushed glass from the first coat. This means that the glass will not erode away leaving a compromised non-slip surface. In some chemical plant operations, chemicals that spill can create a slippery surface which can lead to falls.
Work Duration
These applications of the epoxy walkway took 4 days due to unfavorable weather and 24-hour traffic at the chemical plant.
